Purrcy
Purrcy is a gorgeous Red Abyssinian who is now obviously happy as a clam but certainly didn’t start out that way! As the director of the largest purebred cat rescue in the midwest (come see us) .
Purrcy came to my attention when someone e-mailed me about a poor Aby kitten that has been sitting in an isolated cage at a pet store for months with no toys and very little interaction. Abyssinians are very active, highly intelligent cats that need a lot of stimulation and loving connections to do well.
On top of it, the breed tends to be claustrophobic about being in small places, so you can only imagine how his kittenhood had been! I never buy cats from pet stores (which is difficult but it only encourages the management to continue to buy more kittens from lousy backyard breeders and continues the cycle) but I did visit the place to check out conditions.
The kitten was no longer there as he had been purchased the day before. I saw that his price had been reduced to rock-bottom because he was now 9 months old (he had been sitting in a cage since he was 8 WEEKS old), NOT NEUTERED and nobody really wanted him anymore. But for a cheap enough price, someone did buy him. And 24 hours later they contacted rescue and wanted to give him up because he was “too active.”
Of course I took him in immediately and the second I picked him up out of his crate the purring started…and it hasn’t stopped for the last 3 years.
I had just lost one of my personal Abys to cancer a few months before and he filled that painful gap PURRFECTLY. There was never a question that he was going to be put up for adoption! Purrcy is a happy clown of a cat who can often be found laying on his back in the middle of the floor or propped against a wall sitting like a little red bear. He loves attention and really never stops purring!

Suzie
My darling little girl cat, in her special blanket. She was so lovely. She was so small compared to Henry & Harley, but she kept them in their place, with a ‘look’ & the occasional hiss!

Thank you to everyone who participated!
Thank goodness Kirsten gave Purrcy the life he deserves, he's gorgeous! A kitten that's too active???? hmmmm…… My heart goes out to Suzanne, but at least she loved Suzie to bits!
