PediPaws [Review]

For those of us who trim our cats’ nails at home, I am sure you have noticed the “As seen on TV” products for filing down your cat’s nails instead of clipping them. Perhaps one of the more popular models is the PediPaws filer. I recently had a chance to try this system and get a feel for how it works.

PediPaws

The Pedipaws system has a long cylindrical handle that ends in a tube called the guard. Inside the clear tube is the sanding roller, which is basically sand paper wrapped around a motor head. There is a hole in the guard where you place your cat’s nail. When you turn it on, the roller spins and acts as a nail trimmer. This whole system is powered by household batteries which are easy to replace.

When trying it out on my cat, he of course smelled it and wanted to check it out. When I switched it on, he was frightened of the vibration and gave me a hard time about touching him with it while it was on. My cats are all accustomed to getting their nails trimmed, but not the vibration feeling. I was able to get my most relaxed cat to sit still long enough for me to try it out.

Infection Detection Cat Litter [Review]

When I noticed one of my cats starting to behave strangely, I watched him with a careful eye as all of us cat owners would. We care about out kitties and become concerned when something changes for the worse.

Casper as a kitten

Casper as a kitten

My cat Casper greatly decreased his normal patterns of eating, drinking, bathing and playing in what seemed like almost overnight. He slept all the time and didn’t want to be touched nearly as much; he was always a very affectionate cat. I started to worry something might be wrong and finally noticed a possible cause one day in the litter box. Casper seemed to be straining to urinate with only small amounts of urine coming out. I jumped online and looked up symptoms that could correlate.

With my new research in hand, I went to store and started looking up and down the pet aisles for anything that could help. I found Rescue First Alert Urinary Tract Infection Detector Cat Litter and read the bag. It labeled some of Casper’s symptoms on it and was a great price – so I decided to try it.

Wellness Cat Food [Review]

I have 6 indoor cats. One of them is an an elderly cat who has had diabetes for 3 years (probably longer, he was feral and outdoors before that). I have been giving him 5 units of insulin 2X per day for 3 years now.

Smokey

On the advice of my neighbor who runs a non-profit purebred cat rescue, I tried this “Wellness” food from Petco, which does not contain any grains. It is just veggies and proteins (mostly fish and poultry). I was extremely skeptical about spending more money for the food, as Iams is pretty expensive and that is what I was feeding.

The Shed Ender [Review]

You’ve seen it on TV, but now you get to hear the real story behind the Shed Ender brush!

I have 6 indoor cats and every morning find myself cleaning off counters and couches from all the hairs they left behind that night. I try to brush them (and even have one cat that likes to be vacuumed!) but every brush I used only seemed to make more hairs loose and fall out right after I finished.  The Shed Ender claims to comb out the loose hair underneath the top coat of visible hair.  Skeptical, I tried it out.
